Digital Expozine : Issues and opportunities in e-publishing for the small press
DIGITAL EXPOZINE : Issues and opportunities in electronic publishing for the small press.
With Maxime Raymond (Les Éditions de Ta Mère) and Hugh McGuire. Moderated by Louis Rastelli and Pascal-Angelo Fioramore (Expozine).
Sunday November 15, 3 – 4 pm, Expozine Reading Room, 5035 Saint-Dominique, Free admission. Facebook event!
This discussion and exploration, held right in the middle of the huge Expozine small press fair, will ask the following questions: why publish digitally? How does it work? What are the challenges and opportunities inherent in digital publishing, and is it worth considering if you’re a small or independent publisher?
Among the veteran Expozine exhibitors, Les Éditions de Ta Mère are among the most innovative and active in hybrid (print and digital) publishing, having nearly all their publications available in both print and digital versions. Maxime Raymond will share his experiences in transitioning this small press into the digital era.
For his part, Hugh McGuire is founder of PressBooks, an online book publishing platform built on WordPress, and is a technologist and writer who experiments and writes about the changing world of publishing. He has observed up close the ongoing transformation of the publishing industry and will relate his experience as it pertains to those curious about embarking on the journey towards electronic publishing themselves.
Digital Expozine arose from a perceived need in the community of small publishers in Montreal to learn about best practices in digital publishing. The project is made possible through funding from the Canada Council for the Arts.
